Wildlife Technician Internship

Conduct biological field monitoring protocols: organizing and implementing field studies to analyze and monitor wildlife and enhance ecological habitats within the Bedeque Bay Watershed.

This is a 16 week summer student internship position – applicants should have or be pursuing a college degree in biology, botany, wildlife, or other related natural resources field.

Start Date: May 13 to Aug 30, 202437.5 hrs/week @ $17/hr

Conduct biological field monitoring protocols: organizing and implementing field studies to analyze and monitor wildlife, and sensitive species.

•Collect and analyze fresh/saltwater water samples, macro-invertebrate population samples, deployment/collection of in-situ probes, use of field collection unit (YSI Pro Plus) and lab photometer.

•Conduct Eel Grass meadow monitoring and enhancement activities along with Blue Carbon estuary sampling protocols.•Conduct Atlantic Salmon habitat/spawning site targeted stream restoration initiatives, plus general in stream species fish habitat enhancement protocols.

•Conduct fish population assessments and electrofishing surveys.

•Conduct hedgerow/riparian enhancement measures: native tree and shrub planting.•Implement pollinator habitat assessment and/or enhancement protocols on landscapes adjacent to agricultural fields inclusive: Swamp milkweed propagation, pollinator mix planting, care transplanting of wetland ground plants.

•Implement GPS/GIS technology to conduct ecological monitoring related to habitat restoration(vegetation surveys, invasive species assessment/removal).

Climate Change Program Assistant

Assist BBEMA Climate Change Programs Coordinator to engage municipal leaders and community members in Climate Change initiatives.

Start Date: May 13 to Aug 30, 202437.5 hrs/week @ $17/hr

Duties Include:
•Aid in the planning/hosting of climate change initiatives: community workshops, project planning meetings, information booths and special activity days or events.

•Assist BBEMA Climate Change coordinator and partners in creating pollinator gardens in the community of Summerside and Slemon Park.

•Assist to carry out pollinator habitat assessment and/or enhancement protocols on landscapes within urban/rural lands – implementing opportunities for enhancing habitat availability and biodiversity

•Assist in fostering citizen involvement in stormwater management through Rain Barrel Adoption Program, Rain Garden and Bioswale participation programs (workshops).

•Conduct BBEMA Mission Monarch and Monarch Watch Program protocols – inclusive of Monarch raising, tagging/release protocols, pollinator site monitoring, habitat enhancement, education, and outreach programs

•Assist with delivery of BBEMA Youth Environmental Programs: (Yellow Fish Road, Adopt-a-River, Adopt-a-Pond,) student in class/lab sessions and on-site field trips.

•Assist with Eel Grass Meadow habitat monitoring and enhancement program.
