The Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association (BBEMA) is a not-for-profit charitable organization - the overall organizational goal is “to provide citizen-based education opportunities and direction for citizens of the area to conserve and enhance their environment through planning, education, partnerships and projects”. Supporting community action environmental innitiatives that medigate climate change, maintained water quality and improved the ecosystem biodiversity.
The role of developing, maintaining and improving the environmental components of a watershed that is as involved and complex as the Bedeque Bay watershed is a large and formidable one, well beyond the capacity and capability of a single group. It has to take place on many fronts and with many partnerships. Since its establishment in 1992, BBEMA has worked with individuals of all ages, from many different sectors providing the opportunity for continued participation for all watershed stakeholders: residents, landowners, youth and seniors groups, business, agriculture, fisheries, and tourism sectors of the watershed as well as to community, municipal, provincial and federal governments.
“We envision the Bedeque Bay watershed supporting an improved quality of life within its boundaries through sustainable land use practices, the protection of our water resources and conservation of our natural habitats, ensuring environmental health and prosperity of our watershed for future generations.”
To this extent, BBEMA’s projects and activities focus on key management areas: Soil Erosion, Water Quality, Natural Habitat Conservation, Climate Change and Public Awareness.
